We’ve all had those neighbors that abuse our hospitality. He borrows the leaf blower and then never brings it back. She borrows enough ingredients to start her own bakery. “Can you do me a little favor and take me to the store?” turns into a cross-country trip. You hate the inconvenience but you hate the guilt trips they’ll give you if you refuse even more. These problems are typified by this letter I recently received.

“My neighbor doesn’t have a car, so about once a week she calls and asks me to take her grocery shopping. The problem is that I don’t have all day to take her places. When I drop her off at the store, I tell her that I’ll be back in forty-five minutes, but when I return she’s never done. It takes her an hour and a half or more to finish her shopping, and by that time I’m pretty mad. She never says thanks, and when I mention that she’s taking too long, she just gets irritated. I’m getting really tired of this, but I feel guilty that she doesn’t have anybody who can take her anywhere. What can I do?”

We all have a responsibility to be loving toward the people around us. It’s simply the right way to live, and it brings us lasting, genuine happiness. Other people, however, do not have the right to choose how loving we must be toward them. You’re responsible to love your neighbor as much as you choose, not as much or in the way she chooses.

To illustrate, imagine that I come to your door and tell you I really need some money. You’re a nice person, so you give me twenty dollars. But I say that’s not enough, and I force my way into your house, where I go through your drawers and closets until I find enough to satisfy me. Are you obligated to stand there and let me do that? Ridiculous, and yet that is the situtation between you and your neighbor.

You don’t have to give your neighbor a single minute of your time, but you choose to do give her your time anyway. You’re offering her a gift-just as you offered me the twenty dollars in the brief visualization we did-but in each case she says (with her behavior) that your gift isn’t enough, so she just takes more than you offer. But you’re not obligated to allow that to happen. How much you give her is entirely your choice, and when you remember that, you’ll feel less guilty.

When you get irritated at her, you’re demonstrating that you expect something from her in return-gratitude, appreciation, kindness-which means you’re not entirely giving her a gift. You’re making a trade with her. You’re trading your time and effort for her approval. Trades usually end up being perceived as unfair by one party or the other, and trading is not a loving or rewarding way to live.

Instead of trading, make a decision about what you’re willing to do for her unconditionally. You decide how much of your time and resources you’ll offer without any thought of return for yourself. Then offer your gift, fully prepared for her to be ungrateful, demanding, and irritated. When she demands more, you clearly and lovingly state what you’re willing to do. But you don’t give in and feel obligated to do more than you’ve previously decided.

How will this look in practical application? There are several ways you can approach this:

The next time she asks you to take her to the store, tell her that you have exactly X minutes to give her-45 minutes, an hours, whatever. Don’t bring up all the times she’s been inconsiderate before. If you do that, she’ll feel attacked and defensive. Just tell her what time you’ll be coming to pick her up at the front of the store. Tell her that if she isn’t finished when you come to get her, you have other places to be, and she’ll have to get a taxi or other means of transportation home. Then if she’s not there on time, you have to leave. She’ll almost certainly be furious, but it will have been HER choice-not yours-not to be there at the appointed time.

If she’s late, you could also choose to wait for her-once again-but this time tell her that waiting past the appointed time is just causing too much diruption to your schedule, so you won’t be able to take her shopping anymore.

Tell her that you’d love to help her with her shopping, but she’ll have to go at the times you choose to shop for your own family. She’ll also have to complete her shopping in the time you allot for your own shopping.

As you learn to love your neighbor, you’ll be happier. That love will bless both of you, however, only if you offer it freely. Give her what you can without a desire for your own reward, and without guilt or anger. By your own choices and experience, you’ll discover what is the right amount of assistance to offer.

The world is literally dying from a lack of the one thing essential for our happiness—Real Love. We spend our entire lives trying to replace that unconditional love with praise, power, sex, money, entertainment, safety, and so on. But it never works, and the resulting emptiness and fear are almost too much to bear.

We don’t have to live like this anymore. Greg Baer and RealLove.com are teaching (1) the real cause of fear and anger and (2) how to find this Real Love that replaces the fear, anger, and conflict in our lives with peace, confidence, and genuine happiness.

Dr. Greg Baer is the author of 16 books, DVDs, and CDs—two of which are internationally published by Penguin Putnam Group—and has presented the life-changing message of Real Love to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world.

For more information on Real Love, including hours of free streaming video and audio, visit www.RealLove.com . You’ll be grateful for the rest of your life that you took this step.

So you got fascinated with hovercrafts and how it works. Next thing you knew you’re into designing a plan of your own. The only thing is that you don’t know how or where to begin. Building a hovercraft is a neat project to do. Not only is it fun, it’s a learning process too. Especially if you plan to do this at home, you must start with a nicely prepared homemade hovercraft plan.

Any design plan tells you that there are principles applied to it. A homemade hovercraft plan must also follow this general rule of thumb. How a hovercraft works is simply by air cushion pressurized below a platform. That’s how simple the concept is. Assuming that it’s already floating, you need to put some additional power to thrust it forward. And of course, an improvised way to steer your homemade vessel should complete the design concept.

Ready to go hovercrafts can be expensive. So, many prefers to build their own at home. Also, some hovercraft stores would sell a design kit instead. It’s cheaper and it’s fun. Your homemade hovercraft plan should be something like this – a design kit.

Your homemade hovercraft plan should have the following items:

1.	Specifications for your fanning system. A vacuum cleaner or any gadget that can create air pressure such as a leaf blower can be an example to use. You will use this little machine to allow air flow. You may use improvised conduit type materials to control the direction of air. The objective is to send the flow of air below the platform.

2.	So next thing you need to include in your homemade hovercraft plan is the platform. This is because of two reasons. You need it to ride in to and you need a surface area to distribute the air coming from the fanning system. An improvised version can be made out of plywood or hard foam or fiberglass. As long as it can carry your weight and is not too heavy for the pressurized air you will create for cushion.

3.	Include the flexible skirt. All hovercrafts have this. This is used to hold and limit the air beneath the platform. The effect will create the air cushion and therefore provides the lift for your vessel. In your homemade hovercraft plan, you may use heavy and thick plastic sheets. This is skirted around the platform. Specifically sized holes will be bored into the platform for air flow passage. A hovercraft cannot be a hovercraft without a skirt.

4.	The last part of your design should be the propeller system. If you have available equipment that can generate air pressure strong enough to exert air cushion and thrust for your hovercraft, use it. Label the specifications in your homemade hovercraft plan as to how this should be installed. Include the steering system as well. A simple steering for your homebuilt vessel is that of two handle bars that you can maneuver by pulling each. This should be connected to a rudder system behind the propeller.

When all of these items are in your design, you should be ready to go. Just don’t forget to put them all in your homemade hovercraft plan. Make sure it’s easy to understand. Then you’re done, start building the plan. If your plan works and works really well, you can even earn extra by selling your plan yourself.

Imagine this: after waking up and having your morning coffee, you head off to work… in your home office. Working from home is a dream come true for many aspiring entrepreneurs. Who among us doesn’t want to be their own boss, set their own hours and spend more quality time with your loved ones? Unfortunately, working at home is a more difficult endeavor than many people realize.

The Discipline Factor

In a word, running businesses from home takes discipline. Consistent discipline. This is what trips up many would-be work at home entrepreneurs. The lure is deceptive. It’s enticing to envision yourself toiling away a few feet from where you sleep every night instead of a long car commute to your current employer. But the advantage of working for someone else in another location should not be ignored: fewer distractions.

See, when you shift into working at home, you often have to learn a skill you never needed before – how to stay focused amidst myriad distractions. All the little things you don’t pay attention to at home during your off hours: phone ringing, kids playing, spouse intruding to ask questions or favors, that leaf blower next door, etc. The reality is, a lot of people who start work at home businesses fail because they never master this one skill.

How To Become Disciplined

The good news is that you can pretty easily set up ways to block out all those distractions and get more productive work done in your home business. There are two specific tips I can offer as someone who has “been there, done that.” These are not theories. I know from personal experience as someone who has worked from home for years that these two ideas work. I suffered from being easily distracted until I took action on the following solutions.

Work Set Hours

The first thing that will improve your ability to do more work at home is setting work hours and posting them around the house. It may sound corny, but the biggest source of distraction is usually your own family. Businesses demand focus, no matter where the work is being performed. Sit down with your family and explain that you’re not any less serious just because you now work from the house. Make it a hard-and-fast rule that during work hours, you are not to be disturbed unless there’s an emergency. Print out some ‘work hours’ and ‘do not disturb’ sheets and post them on your home office door. You will be pleasantly surprised by how effective this one step can be in reducing distractions.

Take Frequent Breaks

The other effective tip for work at home business success is to take short breaks every 20-30 minutes. This is something it took me a long time to learn, but it makes all the difference in my productivity. Take five minutes off to go get a bite to eat or take a quick walk around your yard. When you return and resume working, you’ll be more focused and less anxious. The work will flow effortlessly.

Work at home businesses can be rewarding and enjoyable. I hope I’ve convinced you that they also demand a level of discipline and focus that traditional work environments do not require. Be prepared as you embark on your own home business to deal with the distractions so they don’t wreck your new venture.

Bet you’re looking forward to spring, warm weather and entertaining in your home. But, maybe you’re front lawn and backyard doesn’t look so inviting. Winter leaves behind dead leaves, twigs and those spring berries can start to fall fast. If yard clean up’s got you down, consider buying an electric leaf blower to make your life easier. An electric blower can make yard clean up in a small or large space more efficient, less time consuming and less frustrating. They come with powerful fans that blow leaves and debris into piles you (or the kids) can quickly remove. And many also have vacuums and bags you can attach to the blower.

The vacuum and bags simplifies yard clean up even more. Simply suck up the debris with a blower and you can quickly dispose of the leaves in eco-friendly yard bags. Some leaf blowers also have mulcher to turn those leaves and debris into mulch you can use to beautify your flowerbeds or nourish your vegetable garden. Electric blowers come with or without a cord. Cordless models are better for bigger areas because you’re not restricted by the length of the cord. Most of them can be easily recharged from a socket in your home, and they’re light and easily portable.

If you find you can’t bear the weight of carrying around a leaf blower in your large yard, you can always choose a backpack electric leaf blower. Just slip it over your shoulders and you’re ready to make your yard clean up nice and easy. Blowers with cords can make yard clean up in a tight area much quicker and easier than using a rake. Keep in mind, though, that if the cord is long, the leaf blower will be less powerful.

Many people find electric blowers are great for yard clean up. But, the noise level these machines create isn’t so appealing. Remember, however, that as far as noise goes, electric blowers are much easier on your ears than gas leaf blowers. However, manufacturers and health professionals recommend wearing hearing protection when you use an electric leaf blower. Also, you may not be worried just about the messy leaves and debris below – on your lawn or in your backyard. Sometimes, it’s the leaves and other waste that clog up your gutters or eaves troughs. You can also use your blower to clear away this mess during your yard clean up. Keeping your gutters clear helps to protect your home’s exterior – and it’s environmentally friendly.

Another benefit that electric blowers provide for homeowners is that they’re low maintenance, unlike gas leaf blowers. The most you may need to do to your electric blower is clean out the tube on occasion to remove residue, and clean the brushes once in a while. To keep it working smoothly make sure you use a cord with the right voltage. If you are looking to save time and keep your yard looking spectacular consider investing in an electric leaf blower.

For Fallen Leaves That Deserve the Best

Buying the best leaf blower can be a challenge, but it is worth the time involved. One that doesn’t match your needs will just create more work instead of making lawn care easier. The goal is to find one that is the best for specific jobs. The best leaf blower for a small yard will be different than the best for a large yard or the best to use for commercial landscapes. Fallen leaves deserve the best and it doesn’t matter if they are blown into a garden to be used as mulch or blown together for easy pick up and removal.

Before you head out to the local hardware store or home improvement store, sit down and list what you need to do, the size of the area that you will be using it on, the distance to a power outlet, the parameter of the yard, and anything else that you think will be helpful to use to be able to choose the best one to buy.

Some of the information you should have with you when you head out to buy the best:

What type of debris will you be blowing?

How much of an area will you be maintaining?

What is your physical strength?

How much power do you need?

What is the noise level tolerance of your neighbors?

What amount of money do you have available to spend?

TYPE OF DEBRIS

For dead grass and leaves the best blower is a lightweight electric one. Weed Eater’s Barracuda 2595 (2010) is a good choice. For the same debris but on a larger yard, you may consider one that is carried in a backpack or on wheels.

When you have small twigs, branches, and heavier debris the best choice is an electric handheld leaf blower. Some good choices include the following: Toro’s Super Blower Vac 51591, Toro’s Ultra Blower Vac 51598, and the John Deere BH25 (2010). For the same debris but on a larger yard, the best one is one that is carried in a backpack or on wheels.

PHYSICAL FITNESS LEVELS

For the highly fit with strong arms, any type is the best leaf blower. For those less fit, who have physical problems, or medical issues the best is one that is lightweight or is on wheels.

LEAF BLOWER FEATURES

The following features are found on the best:

Variable speed

Adjustable airspeed direction

Handlebar throttle

Extra battery

Long life batter

Adaptable to wheels or backpack

When you are looking for the best leaf blower, ask around the neighborhood and find out what is working for your neighbors who probably have similar needs as you do. Finally, shop around for the best prices before buying one.

I will be writing a number of articles on Halloween. Why you ask? Because it is my family and friends favorite time of the year! Let me explain what I mean when I say FAVORITE! We hold our party as close to Halloween as we can. It is a neighborhood party. Usually about 75% of our neighborhood participates in the party. We also have friends and our neighbors friends join in the fun. Each year the amount of people rises. You know you do a great job when people start talking about it in July! Our party consists of food, beverages (also BYOB) finger food and candy. We have themed costumes and contests. We spend at least a week prior to the party getting food ready and getting the decorations ready. Our number of attendees range from 40 to 60 and, like I stated earlier, grows each year.

The Food

When we prepare food for the party, it is always themed food. And, our food is usually gross! One year we had a kitty litter cake, and was so gross no one ate it! We have had chocolate mice, fried lung, fried skin, bat wings, brain, heart, monster toes, witch fingers, centipedes, bat droppings, mummy spread, swamp juice, and many, many more disgusting foods. It is real fun watching people ew and yuk at the gross looking food. But, it tastes great! Looks can be deceiving.

Themes

We try to have themes that are kid friendly as we do have a lot of children attending. As an example, one year we did a play on words. You had to think of a word or phrase and make a costume about it. One lady had a white sweat suit with candy wrappers on it and came as White Trash. A girl had a devil costume on with eggs all over it for Deviled Eggs. We had a web server, maid of money, leaf blower, red as a beet, nun of your business and loan shark. But the best (and won best costume) was I’m a Cowboy, Baby. Yup, a neighbor is a police officer (and a big guy!) and he had on cowboy boots, a western shirt, cowboy hat and a diaper! You see where the fun comes in?

Props

We also have a ton of props. One that is a big hit is our beverage cooler. A couple years ago I was trying to figure out how to make a cooler to hold all of the BYOB that was arriving so we didn’t have a ton of coolers lying around. So I hit upon the idea of making a coffin. Now this coffin is full sized, and lined with Styrofoam. It’s black with a red cross on the lid. What a hit! We put a full sized skeleton in it and pack him in ice. When we start cleaning up the next day there is still ice in it, so it works great!

We also have smaller props that we use. We have tea light candle holders with witches, and black cats. We have jars with yucky liquids that I labeled to look like witches ingredients. We have a 3 foot spider and web that we string in the corner (on trick-or-treat night there is usually at least one person who gets freaked out by this). I am also the DJ and we have music for dancing, but I also include Halloween favorites like Werewolves of London, Purple People Eater and Monster Mash to name a few. After the games, dancing is usually the next round of fun. The kids are pumped up on sugar and having fun in the yard , and us adults start the REAL party!

Games

We have games for both adults and kids, although the kids games are usually more fun! We have done the traditional such as guess the body part, but also some unique such as the spider races. We play roll the peanut and of course bobbing for apples. We have prizes for both the kids and adults.

On my Blog I will be publishing further articles. I will also include pictures on the topics I will talk about. If you see or read something of particular interest to you, just pop a comment and I will try and answer it for you. So get your Halloween face on and get the gears rolling. Have a great time this year!

A lot of individuals love participating in lawn mower racing events. Most of these tournaments transform a regular law mower into an exciting racing vehicle. But transforming a standard mower is relatively inexpensive compared with creating a racing vehicle from scratch or buying one in the market.

MATERIALS NEEDED IN CREATING A RACING LAWN MOWER

The materials needed for this project are a lawn mower, smaller pulley, wrenches, a new muffler and new and larger wheels.

STEPS IN BUILDING A RACING LAWN MOWER

Start creating your dream racers by replacing the original pulleys with smaller pulleys. This will improve the speed of the mower. Carefully remove the old engine of the mower and turn it upside down. Separate the vehicle’s pulley and dry belt. With the help of a wrench, unscrew the tap and bolt that secure the mower’s pulley in position.

Replace the old one with a smaller pulley. Thoroughly check the dry belt to make sure that there are no sign of decay or damages. Replace it if you see any defects. Attach a new dry belt onto to the smaller pulley. Check if the bolts and screws are secure. Check the muffler if it has any rusts or damages. Replace the muffler if you see any defects since even a little damage will cause your mower to lose speed and may cause you to lose the race.

Carefully detach the governors in your carburetor. Some mowers may possess multiple governors. If your mower has more than one governor, they can be found on the throttle and gas portion of your mower machine. Check the tires to make sure that they have enough air pressure.

You have the option to replace your tires with bigger ones or attach ruts to make the vehicle more manageable in mud. You can also keep the originals front tires or replace it with smaller tires instead of bigger ones. Remember to check the rules and regulations of the track that you intend racing on. Some racing tracks require racers to keep the mowing deck of their mower.

The mowing deck will help the racer keeps it balance while racing especially during sharp turns. Other racing tracks may permit you to take it off. Decorate your mower according to your tastes. You can also check other mowers to get some tips on how to make your own racer faster. Remember to wear a helmet and eye goggles to protect your head and eyes.

It is important to periodically monitor the overall condition of a home. Wear and tear as a result of weather and age occurs in every home, and it is wise to take care of problems before they lead to extensive and costly repairs. Routine maintenance should be done to ensure that everything is well in all parts of the home. This should especially be the case as far as the exterior of the home is concerned because it is the exterior of the home that is most subjected to wear and tear.

1. Maintain Your Gutter

One of the best tips that can be given for the proper maintenance of the exterior of the home is by maintaining the gutter. The gutter is the trough fixed under or along the eaves for draining rainwater from a roof. Gutters in general are also are called eaves spouts, eaves trough, rainspouts and spouting. Because they are located at the exterior of the home their proper maitenance has a direct impact upon the overall appearance of the home. Maintaining gutters is an easy task. One only has to think about the serviceability they are able to offer once they are rid of everything that they need to be rid of. Clogged gutters can cause landscaping, lawn and shrubbery, walls, foundation, basement, crawl spaces and existing gutter system great damage. This is the reason why these channels should be kept clean at all times.

2. Gutter Maitenance Tips

In maintaining gutters, it is important for one to make sure that he has all the materials needed before starting work. It is not advisable for him to stop in the middle of a task to hunt for a tool. The first step is to clean the gutters with a narrow stiff-bristled brush. A wallpaper brush can be used to sweep out debris when the gutters are dry. It is also not advisable to clean the gutters by flushing them with a garden hose. This might cause the downspout to clog. Gutters should be cleaned when they are dry, and the hose should be used to flush out any remaining debris.

- Clean any leaves, twigs or other debris off the roof

- Walking on the roof and using an old broom or a leaf blower, pitch all debris down into the yard

- Once the roof is clean of debris, start on the gutters themselves

- Using a narrow trowel or putty knife, gently lift any debris in the gutters out and pitch it down to the yard

- For safety purposes, it is a must to check all the supports when the gutters themselves are clean enough

- Hose the gutters down

- Use the hose to test the gutters ability to rapidly redirect water

3. Gutter Tips

It is not advisable to lean ladders against the gutter. Installing a plastic support piece to the gutter to support the weight of the ladder is what should be done. The support piece in question provides a permanent access point to the roof and is fastened to the wood underneath the roof using galvanized deck screws. It can also be mounted directly to the gutter. Purchasing a ladder stabilizer for added ladder safety is also a must as the ladder stabilizer locks onto the rungs of the extension ladder, preventing the ladder from shifting side to side.

4. Prevention Is Better Than Cure – Gutter Guards

Those who want nice-looking, serviceable gutters for their homes are advised to consider installing gutter guards, screens that prevent debris from entering the gutter. These devices also direct the flow of water away from the house and into the ground. This way, one will have gutters that will prove to be more of a blessing than a curse. Proper maintenance of these devices will cause them to be extremely useful while adding a touch of style to the exterior of the home which they form part of.

The first thing to keep in mind when shopping for a protective cover is the application. Tarpaulins come in a variety of weights, thicknesses, and materials. Most people are very familiar with the popular poly blue tarps that can be found at most discount stores. These “blues” are at the low end of the quality spectrum and are not intended to last for very long or handle much stress or strain. At the same time, the blue ploys are inexpensive, convenient, and highly useful for temporary cover. If more than that is needed, there are several other varieties to choose from in the poly and vinyl categories.

Generally speaking, vinyl is stronger than poly, and more expensive. If you need something that won’t be likely to rip or tear, vinyl is a better choice. At the same time, there are plenty of times when inexpensive poly will do the job beautifully and for far less money. Understanding the various types of both poly and vinyl tarps that are available on the market today will help you to select the best product for your needs.

Poly White Tarp

The most common use for a white tarp is to provide long term protection for boats, cars, and RVs. They are also used in landscaping, roofing, to cover wood piles, and even skating rinks. Unlike the lightweight blue tarp, a white tarp is a heavy duty tarp designed to last longer and to withstand the effects of sun, wind, and rain. A white tarp is waterproof, mildew, rot, tear and acid resistant, and can handle below freezing temperatures. They are also UV treated for protection against sunlight and to ensure a longer life. A quality white tarp offers heat sealed edges and the hems are reinforced with rope. Corners are reinforced with a solid plastic bar, adding strength and stability. The material is 11-12 mils thick, making it durable and tear resistant.

Poly Silver Tarp

A silver tarp is another variety of heavy duty poly tarp. At 12 mils thick, they are highly rip resistant. They are also treated to be water, rot, and mildew resistant, and can be used in sub-zero temperatures. Silver tarps are frequently used for roofing, trailer and RV covers, woodpiles, and landscaping. Like the white tarp, a silver tarp offers UV protection and heat sealed seams reinforced with rope in the hems and rust resistant grommets.

Vinyl Clear Tarps

Vinyl clear tarps are an excellent choice for patio and porch enclosures, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors without getting wet. They can also turn your RV awning into an instant porch with a view. Unlike many others, clear tarpaulins come in both poly and vinyl material. Vinyl clear tarps are available in both 18 oz – 20 mil size and 27 oz – 30 mil size. This means that they feature 18 or 20 ounces of material per square yard and are 20 to 30 mil thick. This makes them some of the strongest tarps available on the market. Clear vinyl tarps are highly waterproof, tear resistant, as well as acid, oil, grease, and mildew resistant.

Poly Clear Tarps

Clear poly tarps are lighter and less expensive and provide less protection than their vinyl cousins. If you will be painting your home and want to protect the furniture or the shrubs, poly is an excellent choice. In those situations, you can save a lot of money be using poly instead of vinyl. In situations where strength and durability are important, vinyl will give you all the protection you need.

Chris Harmen writes for MyTarp.com, where customers can choose from affordable, high quality white tarp and silver tarp poly products, or heavy duty vinyl clear tarps, depending upon their needs.
